MERCEDES MARTHA ROYBAL,
16, a resident of Española, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, January 9, 2009. Mercedes brought laughter, love and kindness to the people around her, especially her family. She will be remembered as a generous and witty girl with a great sense of humor, bright and lovely smile and will be terribly missed. Mercedes is survived by her mother and step-father, Vanessa and Mario Manzanares; brother, Joshua D. Roybal of Española; grandparents who raised her, Alfred and Beatrice Roybal of Arroyo Seco; paternal grandparents, Zulma and Felipe Romero of Chimayo; beloved uncle, Alfred John Roybal and Katya Davis both of Española; aunt, Marsha Villarreal and Terry Allen; cousins, Peter, Ignacio and Johnny Villarreal of Abiquiu; fathers, Matthew Marquez and Tiny Romero both of Chimayo; step-sisters, Michelle and Danielle Romero of Albuquerque and numerous other relatives who Mercedes loved dearly. Cremation is being planned. A rosary will be recited on Thursday, January 15, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home.
