As a former teacher and coach in the Española school system, I want to compliment the Española Valley Mariachi Sol del Valle and director Alfonso Trujillo for their tremendous accomplishment of representing EVHS, Northern New Mexico and the entire state at President-elect Barack Obama’s inauguration parade.
Having coached boys baseball, girls basketball and girls softball for 28 years in our system, I know the rigors of fund-raising. So as was the case when my athletic teams needed financial assistance for special projects (scoreboards) our community always rose to the occasion.
The very same people who are often criticized about their political careers and judgments are the ones who always stepped up to the plate, when help and support was requested.
I think it is appropriate to publicly thank all agencies and individuals who have contributed to the mariachi group’s fund. I especially want to thank Rio Arriba Commission chairman Alfredo Montoya and all the commissioners for their support of our EVHS students.
