The Feb. 28 arson incident to the rental house of Isabel and Virgil Trujillo in Abiquiú has created quite a bit of anger and disappointment in the village. Not because of the incident itself, but because of what occurred afterwards.
While I sympathize with Mrs. Trujillo, her insinuations in a public forum toward the Abiquiú Land Grant and its neighbors shows a lack of character and a lack of respect toward her neighbors. The Abiquiú Land Grant is a legal entity whose past, present and future leaders, including her husband, have strived and will strive to better Abiquiú, not burn its residents out.
The current land grant board should be commended for its efforts to stop the people who have preyed on the land grant for their own personal gain. I’m sure these self-centered, egotistical people who have been affected by these changes will relish the opportunity to put the land grant and its present board in a bad light every chance the get.
As for the fear of vendettas because of decisions made, I was taught by my elders that the illusion of self-importance was just another sign of immaturity and of stroking one’s own ego.
