I hope the citizens of Española will take time to read this statement. I want to let the citizens know how the law enforcement and judicial system can fail us. My grandchild was sexually victimized by a member of the community who has been a menace to society his whole life. This person was supposed to be the male figure in the child’s life. Since the assault I have been patiently waiting for justice. Now, after waiting for years I was told that the case is being dismissed by the judge in Tierra Amarilla and by the trial lawyers in the Española District Attorney’s office.
How can these people have the heart to ignore the fact that this man has raped and molested a young child. All of my family and the child’s counselors are in shock; it is unbelievable. This has affected everyone who knows about the crime. How can this sick person who has done wrong his whole life get a slap on his hand and just walk? His file of criminal activities is thicker than the family bible, and he just walks away. Did the trial attorneys and judge have his file? Did they bother to read the file? It is no wonder citizens are losing faith in the law enforcement system.
