I am writing to recognize a police officer who went above and beyond the call of duty. On Sept. 6, my grandparents were leaving Wal-Mart and while in the parking lot discovered that their vehicle wouldn’t start. It was a rainy day, and they were lucky that Española Police Sgt. Richard Gallegos was passing through the area at the same time. Sgt. Gallegos noticed my Grandfather outside of the vehicle with the hood up and immediately went over to offer his assistance. Sgt. Gallegos offered the use of his cell phone in attempts to contact family or a mechanic. He was very attentive, stayed there with them and helped in every way until he made sure that everything was all right.
The Española Police Department should be proud of having Sgt. Gallegos on the force; he is a very good man and deserves a commendation.
My grandparents and our family are very grateful to Sgt. Gallegos for taking the time to be an upstanding Officer in our community and provide such thorough assistance in a situation that others may not have taken the time to recognize.
