A quick run-down of which teams and athletes are on their way to compete in state championships.

Cross Country

Who’s In?

(Teams)

    Española Valley girls and boys teams: The teams qualified for the Class AAAA state meet by finishing among the top three teams in District 2AAA.

    Pojoaque boys and girls teams: The Elks and the Elkettes qualified for the Class AAA state meet by finishing among the top three teams in District 2AAA.

    Mesa Vista boys: The Trojans qualified for the Class A-AA state meet by finishing among the top three teams in District 2A-AA.

 Who’s In?

Coronado: The Leopards’ Patrick Cordova, Johnny Chavez and Jessi Chavez qualified for the Class A-AA boys meet by finishing at the District 5A-AA meet in the top three among runners whose teams did not qualify for the state meet.

    Mesa Vista: Lady Trojan Haliey Lucero qualified for the Class A-AA girls meet by winning the District 2A-AA meet.

    McCurdy: The Bobcats’ Ernesto Gonzales and Dennis Trujillo qualified for the Class A-AA boys meet by finishing at the District 2A-AA meet in the top three among runners whose teams did not qualify for the state meet.

Football

Who’s In?

    McCurdy: The Bobcats received an automatic berth in the Class A state quarterfinals.

    Escalante: The Lobos received an at-large bid in the Class A state quarterfinals.

    On the Bubble?

    Pojoaque: If the Elks beat St. Michaels Saturday they are likely to receive  an at-large bid to the Class AAA state playoffs. If they lose, their chances are slim.

Volleyball

Who’s In?

    Pojoaque: The Elkettes received an automatic berth to the Class AAA state tournament after winning District 2AAA.

    Dulce: The Lady Hawks qualified for the opening round of the Class AA state tournament after finishing second in the District 2AA tournament.

    On the Bubble?

    Española Valley: The Lady Sundevils need a strong showing in the  District 2AAAA tournament if they want to qualify for state as an at-large team.
