Here are SUN Staff Writer George Morse’s recommendations for outdoor recreation in Rio Arriba County over the Memorial Day weekend.
1. Village of Chama: There is good fishing in the nearby lakes and beautiful high mountain scenery around Cumbres Pass.
2. Rio de Los Pinos: This is the best time of the year to catch a larger-than-average trout from this river.
3. Jicarilla Apache Reservation: The fishing in Embon and Mundo lakes has been excellent and this time of year you can catch some good fish from the Navajo River north of Dulce.
4. Hopewell Lake: The fishing for brook and rainbow trout is good this time of year and the weather is cool.
5. Cruces Basin Wilderness Area: There is good fishing in the small streams and the Lagunitas Lakes.
