Student Working Solo Pulls 197 Pounds of Garlic

(SUNfoto by George Morse) Sostenga farm manager Jennie London holds bunches of garlic that were presented to each of the five teams that participated at the Garlic Festival July 6 to see who could dig the most garlic. London planted the field with seed stock from last year’s garlic crop, primarily with the Metechi variety of garlic. Sostenga received their seed stock last year from Gemini Farms in Las Trampas. The Sostenga farm is also growing blue corn grown from seed saved from last year’s crop, along with lettuce, beets, broccoli and other vegetables.
