Stay Away from Annual Co-op Meeting

Published:

Many Rio Grande SUN readers and others will recall that about this same time last year I wrote an editorial urging all member/owners of Jemez Mountains Electric Cooperative to refrain from attending the July annual meeting.

My reason for urging you not to attend was that I felt that by not attending a message would be sent to the leadership (Nick Naranjo, Leo Marquez and John Tapia) that we are aware of and strongly disapprove of their continuous mismanagement of our co-op and total disregard for any semblance of decency as public officials. As it turned out attendance dropped an astounding 50 percent from the previous year.

Unfortunately, the mismanagement and overall shameful conduct of the leadership has gone from very bad to even worse. It is for these reasons I must now again urge everyone to stay away from “their” meeting.

Out of approximately 32,000 active member/owners only about 400 attended last year. (Many of those in attendance were employees and their families.) If attendance drops again this year as significantly as it did last year our message of disapproval will again be heard loud and clear both within the Jemez Co-op service area and beyond.

Please don’t underestimate the significance to make others, who are not within the Co-op service area, aware of our plight.

Abuse and corruption thrive where complacency and acceptance are the prevailing order. To go along is to empower those who abuse.

I urge you to stay away from the Co-op meeting at La Cueva this July. It is not an annual membership meeting. It is a meeting to endorse the present gang of scoundrels.
