During a recent radio interview, Taylor Locker, a republican leader, made the most appalling and insensitive remarks about our racially diverse and culturally rich Espanola valley. His extraordinary moronic statement alluded to the fencing in of our city to “make sure those people don’t populate with the rest of the state.”
This abhorrent comment is reminiscent of the insanity that gripped Nazi Germany when they segregated the Jewish people in ghettos before being sent to extermination camps. It is more than obvious that Mr. Taylor is an obsessive racist incapable of concealing his pathetic proclivity for unadulterated bigotry.
But in reality, it goes beyond the ignorance of Mr. Taylor and just like the madness of the Nazi Party, we see the same psychopathic tendencies currently afflict the Republican party. Former President Donald Trump normalized racism and division and make no mistake, it is more virulent than any malignant cancer.
The people of Española have always been hardworking individuals with huge hearts and souls. They deserve much better.
