Jordan Cervantes, Mesa Vista Boys Basketball
Four Trojans scored 15 or more points in a wild 90-82 victory against McCurdy in the district semifinal, with Cervantes leading the way with 21, including 12 in the fourth quarter to pull away for the win. Cervantes also kept fighting with 14 points in the final, a loss to Escalante.
Analise MacAuley, Peñasco Girls Basketball
The highlight for Peñasco’s week was an upset win on Mesa Vista in the district semifinal, where the junior forward led the team with 18 points and added 10 rebounds. She added five blocks in the final against Escalante while doing everything possible to keep the game close.
Emma Maestas, Escalante Girls Basketball
Maestas, a star scorer for her entire career, led the Lady Lobos to a win in the district final with her team-high 15 points. Maestas took on a ball-handling role at times, and her presence is always tough for defenders to stop.
Luka Torrez, Escalante Boys Basketball
Torrez shined in the district championship game; his 33 points included 27 in the second half alone. And many of those were set up by his own steals or rebounds, and he passed up what could have been an even bigger night with several assists.
