Kevin Coffeen, Española Valley Boys Basketball
Though he scored just eight points in a win against Pojoaque, they were some of the biggest points of the game. He hit free-throws to expand Española’s lead and ultimately create the difference in the game, secured a huge offensive rebound, and grabbed a steal in the closing seconds to finish out a win, giving the Sundevils their fourth win in five games.
Emma Kitchens, Pojoaque Valley Bowling
Pojoaque’s junior took home the individual title for 4A bowling at the state championships with a 224 top game and a 550 three-game series. She helped lead Pojoaque to a state runner-up for the storied program.
Noah Maez, Española Valley Wrestling
As a junior, Maez has shown fantastic improvement, and he continued that with a perfect weekend at the district duals. Maez went 7-0, including six pins and a win over Robertson, while switching between weight classes and doing everything possible to help the team win.
Serafin Mendez, Pojoaque Valley Boys Basketball
As just a freshman, and after missing time earlier in the season due to injury, the tall center broke out in a big way despite a loss to Española Valley, starting with a huge second-quarter slam dunk. Mendez finished with a career-high 18 points, nearly leading Pojoaque to a win.
