Kaydence Arrey / Olivia Suazo, Española Valley Tennis

The new pair finished fourth at the girls doubles competition, making it all the way to the semifinals, and giving good fights in the semifinals and in the third-place match. In the team tournament, thought they played on different doubles teams, they both made the most of their matches, helping the team advance to the semifinals and give a good battle against Albuquerque Academy.

Ashley Gilmore, Escalante Track and Field

A junior hurdler, Gilmore took advantage of an opportunity and won a state championship in the 100-meter hurdles. She finished as the fourth-best individual performer in 2A, scoring second-place finishes in both the 300-meter hurdles and the high jump, as well as a third place in the 4×200-meter relay.

James Johnson, Dulce Track and Field

In the boys javelin throw, Johnson kept getting better and better, and set a new state record with a throw of 183 feet, 10 inches en route to a state title. He also finished third in the 400, fourth in the 200, and second in the sprint medley relay.

Marisol Serna, McCurdy Track

Serna’s big second leg helped her Bobcats 4×800-meter relay team take first place in the state championship. The next day, she followed up her performance with one just as good, taking the lead on the final lap to win a state title in the 3200M individual race.
