The McCurdy Bobcats parlayed a huge first half from talented quarterback Jeremaya Roybal to post their first victory of this young season, a 50-42 shootout over Tucumcari in a Class 2A New Mexico Athletic Association football game at Chic Martinez Field Saturday.

in the final 14 seconds of the second quarter, Roybal ran 22 yards for a score, then hit Ryan Montoya on a 49-yard touchdown bomb as the first-half clock expired giving the Bobcats (1-1) as 36-16 halftime lead.

In the first two quarters alone, Roybal rushed 20 times for 176 yards and threw for an additional 110 yards, but it was a 3-yard touchdown run by J.J. Vigil with 3 minutes, 53 seconds to play that gave McCurdy its final margin of victory as Tucumcari had closed within 44-42.

Vigil also defended the Rattlers’ (0-3) final desperation pass on 4th down-and-8 with 1:50 remaining to close out the victory.
