A walk-off, extra-innings single from Alex Trujillo sent the Pojoaque Valley Little League Minors All-Stars to the finals of the District 5 Tournament last week.

Trujillo’s hit capped a comeback from an early deficit as Pojoaque won 10-9 over East Mountain.

Although Pojoaque dropped the championship game to tournament host Roadrunner Little League in Albuquerque, it still put on a strong showing, Toby Trujillo, one of Pojoaque’s coaches, said.

With the win, Roadrunner advances to the state tournament in Albuquerque, hosted by Enchanted Little League.

East Mountain led 4-1 through the top of the third before Pojoaque went up with a four-run rally.

The teams traded the lead back and forth, with Aaron Gonzales coming in to score after singling in the sixth to tie it 9-all and send the game into extra innings before Trujillo’s hit ended it in the seventh.

The tournament also included teams from Mile High/Zia and Española Valley, which Pojoaque beat to reach the semifinal game.
