Barbara Martinez, 61, Santa Clara Pueblo, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2009 following a lengthy illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ramon and Flora Naranjo; father of her children, Manuel Tito Martinez; brother, Hutchy Naranjo; and sister, Frances Salazar.
Mrs. Martinez was a potter. She was a member of the Faternal Order of Eagles. She loved to sew, do crossword puzzles, read books and listen to Native American songs on the radio.
She is survived by her daughter, Victoria Tafoya, Santa Clara Pueblo; sons, Christopher Martinez, Manuel Martinez Jr., and Sammy Naranjo, all of Santa Clara Pueblo and sister, Glenda Gibson, Albuquerque;.
A rosary was recited Jan. 26 at the family residence. Mass of Christian Burial was held Jan. 27 at the Santa Clara Pueblo Catholic Church, with burial following at the Santa Clara Catholic Cemetery.
Assisting the family as pallbearers were Joe and Wally Suazo, Jordan and Justin Naranjo, Jonathan Vigil, Dirk Tafoya, Christopher Atkinson, Jason Gutierrez, and Kevin Tafoya. Honorary pallbearer was Joe Chavarria.
