Blaze Burns 50 Acres

(SUNfoto by Lou Mattei) Alcalde fire fighters along Rio Arriba County Road 41 said they were keeping an eye out Sunday afternoon for “widow-makers” — large tree branches that catch fire and plummet to the ground — during a 50-acre wildfire in the area. The fire, which smoldered on into Monday, destroyed two vacant buildings and portends what could be an especially volatile wildfire season.
