CARMELITA SALAZAR

CARMELITA SALAZAR, 82, a resident of Truchas, passed away on Thursday, November 13, 2008 following a short illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, Manuel Salazar and Catalina Barela; sons, David and Guillermo Salazar; brothers, Eduardo and Trinidad Salazar; sister, Anita Chavez; grandchildren, Amarette Barela and Tommy E. Martinez; nephews, Casey Salazar, Orlando Chavez, Junior Salazar and Donald Salazar; niece, Carol Martinez-Salazar and special son-in-law, Jose Rubel Martinez. Carmelita is survived by her children, Angie Chavez and companion Manuel Villegas of Alcalde, Leo Chavez and wife Mary, Eufelio Chavez and wife Jane, Jerry Barela and Myra Salazar all of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Yvonne, Angel, Nancy, Leo Jr. and Manuel Chavez, Corrine Mansfield, Linda, MaryLou, Joseph, Ronnie and Carol Martinez, Junior Chavez, Jamie, Elizabeth, Carlos and Lee Barela, Guillermo Jr., Manuel, Evelyn, Carlos, Angel, Carlito, Mariah and Michael Salazar; brother and sisters, Ernesto Salazar and wife Flora of Los Lunas, Mary Salazar of Santa Fe and Alice Muniz and husband Ted of Peñasco and numerous other relatives and friends. Public visitation was Monday, November 17, 2008 at 6:30 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home with a rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. A second rosary was recited on Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. also in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Truchas. Burial followed at the Llanito Catholic Cemetery in Truchas with the following serving as pallbearers, Mary Lou Martinez, Joseph Martinez, Johnny Ray Chavez, Junior Chavez, Lee Barela, Manuel Salazar, Ronnie Martinez and Linda Martinez. Honorary pallbearers named were all her grandchildren, and 14 great-great grandchildren.
