ALBUQUERQUE – Things didn’t quite work out the way the Española Valley cheer squad hoped Saturday during the state cheer competition at The Pit, but the Sundevils, as well as other local teams, Pojoaque Valley and McCurdy, all saw significant improvement from a year ago.

The numbers may not exactly look grand right now, but Española Valley softball coach Kourtnie Polanco knows better days are not far off.

Building for now and into the future is the name of the game for the Pojoaque Valley cheer squad, which enters Saturday’s state spirit competition at The Pit in Albuquerque, looking to gain experience.
