City Police Show No Respect

I don’t think it is fair the way Española Police treat people here in Española.

I got backed into by an ex-law enforcement officer. I did not know he was an ex law enforcement officer at the time. To me he was just another reckless driver who severely smelled of alcohol.

He told me he did not see me, therefore he knew what he did was wrong. I made the call to the police, but when the police arrived they began to shout at me, instead of giving him a sobriety test. They threatened to tow my car and cite me for reckless driving.

My two children were in the car and were screaming and crying because they did not know what was going on. I remember reading awhile back how police find it offensive when they hear children saying “There is a policeman. Is he going

to take me?” Now I know why youngsters are scared of police officers.

During this incident none of the officers introduced themselves to me. When I asked for the officers’ names one officer refused to give me their names. I feel I had the right to know this information due to the circumstances at hand.

I recall in the past officers used to be nice and introduce themselves and not shout and show their concern to protect and serve. Once the responding officers found out the man that hit my car was an ex-law enforcement officer they began to shout at me.

To me he was just another person who got away with DWI. He is lucky no one got hurt. As I was growing up, I was taught to show respect and you will be respected as well. Well, I showed respect, but I was not respected.
