I would like to thank the Rio Grande Sun for its compliment, “The Chimayó Boys and Girls Club does great work.” (Rio Grande SUN, Another Building?, July 23, 2009, page A6).
Unfortunately, the SUN uses this compliment as a way to criticize Rio Arriba County, and especially Commissioner Elias Coriz, for building a community center in Chimayó labeling it underutilized.
I must point out that Commissioner Coriz has always been a strong supporter of the Boys and Girls Club. Your editorial asks, “Does the County care about existing, proven programs?” Commissioner Coriz does. His ongoing support for our after-school and summer programs both personally and as an officer of the County has been critical, and we thank him for it.
