Compost, Don’t Incinerate

I would like to know why the North Central Solid Waste Authority is burning perfectly good organic matter (Rio Grande SUN, Trash Authority Needs Permit to Buy Clippings Incinerator,” Jan. 23, 2020, page B1). This is the “extra” produce of our pitifully arid land, which the Authority turns into smog, when it could shred it and turn it into compost more efficiently than nature could. They could then return the compost to the land.

Perhaps, if we tried, we could even save the Chama/Rio Grande water shed. Or is it the Authority’s primary concern that we help our watershed to decline more efficiently?

Perhaps it would be better if the Authority would manage their own financial affairs efficiently, with a goal toward benefiting the entire county, or at least our community, rather than trying to make as much profit as it can off of the unsuspecting public.
