A woman has accused Española Police Cpl. Jeff R. Martinez of harassing her while he was off-duty.
Heather Quintana, 21, of Española, went to pick up a pizza at Little Caesars July 3 when Martinez and his niece, Monica Martinez, started chasing her, according to a police report. She took back roads home and the Martinezes allegedly blocked her path, the report states.
She was instructed to bring in a restraining order she claimed she had against one or both of them, but never did, the report states. An online court records database does not show a restraining order against Jeff Martinez.
Jeff Martinez told the investigating officer that he pulled out of his driveway on North McCurdy Road and his niece pulled in behind him. He said he did not block anyone in.
No charges were filed against the Martinezes, and Quintana was advised to file a complaint through the courts, the report states.
Sgt. Christian Lopez, who was called to investigate, said the incident was part of an ongoing dispute.
“They always accuse officers’ families of using the officer as a tool,” Lopez said. “We don’t know the extent of Jeff’s involvement at this point.”
Martinez was still on normal duties at the Police Department as of Tuesday, Lopez said. He did not return a call for comment.
