(SUN Filefoto) Española Valley cross country and track athlete Darren Martinez, shown here winning the 3200-meter run at the Capital City meet April 16, 2011, represented our state and our country at the Down Under International Cross Country Meet in Brisbane, Australia. Martinez competed in the Queensland Health Challenge 5.7 kilometer run June 30 and finished 19th out of 3,586 runners. He will be a senior at Española Valley High School.
