The incorrect photograph was published under a story titled, “Man Implicated in Fatal Crash To Get 10 Months,” that appeared on page A1 of the Feb. 12 issue.
The man shown in the picture was Ben Martinez, 24, of Santa Fe, who appeared in state District Court in Tierra Amarilla for a pre-trial conference Jan. 29 on charges of attempted murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and tampering with evidence. He has no connection with the story which related the case of Jose Escobar Herrera.
A picture of Herrera should have accompanied the aforementioned story.
Herrera, 22, a Mexican immigrant, pleaded guilty to homicide by vehicle Feb. 13 in state District Court in Santa Fe. All of the six-year sentence except the 10 months Herrera already served in jail was suspended by Judge Stephen Pfeffer (see related story on page A1).
