Chave hit a two-run home run in the third inning against the Bloomfield High School Bobcats, in the Sundevils' 7-5 victory in the semi-finals of the Jim Pierce Memorial Tournament at St. Michael’s High School. Chavez hit a grand slam home run in the championship game March 21 and was the winning pitcher in Española’s 6-1 victory over host St. Michael’s. He was voted the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.
