Donald Ernest Gonzales, 44, Alcalde, died Thursday, April 23, 2009. He was preceded in death by his father, Nelson Gonzales; son, Dion Gonzales; brother, Gene Gonzales; sister, Karen Martinez; grandmother, Rosa Martinez; grandfather, Jose Martinez and paternal grandparents, Aaron and Angelina Gonzales.
Mr. Gonzales was employed by Marcon Excavating.
He is survived by his wife, Cheryl O’Conner Gonzales; step-daughters, Charlene and Marcia Lovato and Carmen Aragon; mother, Lala Gonzales; sisters, Angie Trujillo, Judy Romero, Lillian Gonzales, Betty Gonzales; brothers, Manuel Gonzales, Anthony Gonzales, Phillip Gonzales and many other relatives and friends.
A wake service was held April 26 in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated April 27 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Española. Burial followed at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Española with the following serving as pallbearers, David Carey, Casey Luster, Manuel Gonzales Jr., Gene and Lee Gonzales, and Harold Romero III and Walter Rodriguez. Honorary pallbearers named are, John Paul and Pete Martinez, Adrian Velarde, Christopher Lucero, David Martinez, Carlos Gallegos and Frankie Romero.
