Edulia M. Romero,
82, a resident of Lyden, passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2009 surrounded by her children, family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Juan S. Romero; son, Roy A. Romero; infant child, Maria Ignacita; parents, Cresencia and Melaquias Sanchez; parents-in-law, Tobias and Bersabe Romero; brother, Melaquias Sanchez Jr; sisters, Ruth Flemming and Adelina Salazar; two infant grandchildren, Carey Martinez Jr.; and Kenneth Romero. Edulia was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a devoted catholic and participated in the Cursillo and was a Guadalupana. Edulia raised a large family and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She worked for the Espanola Public Schools as a cook for 8 years. In her spare time, she enjoyed canning, making ristras, crocheting and gardening. She was employed with the Apple Shed in Los Luceros. Edulia will be dearly missed by her children, grandchildren, relatives and friends. She is survived by her children, Ignacita Trujillo and husband Valentin of Lyden; Teresa Romero of Espanola, Toby Romero and wife Maria of Las Cachanias, James and Gary Romero of Lyden, Marvin Romero and wife Loyola, Cheryl Sanchez and husband Tony of Los Luceros, Darlene Romero of Espanola, Jane Eileen Martinez and husband Carey of Las Cachanias, Lloyd Romero of Los Luceros, and Rose Romero of Lyden; brothers, Jose M. Sanchez and wife Teresa of Los Lunas, Harold J. Sanchez and companion Rose of Lyden, Eufelia Romero – sister-in-law. 15 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild and many other nieces and nephews. Public visitation was Saturday, February 28, 2009 at 6:30 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home, rosary followed at 7:00 p.m. A second rosary was recited on Sunday, March 1, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday, March 2, 2009 11:30 a.m. at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Velarde. Burial took place at 2:00 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers, Marlene, Julie, and Lorrie Trujillo, Bersabe Smith, Desiree Romero, Kathleen Sanchez, Karen Martinez and Pamela Trujillo. Honorary pallbearers were all her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchild. The family of Edulia M.
