The new emission standards represent the type of bold action President Obama promised the American people and demonstrate how the president is following through on his commitment to bring people together to solve the nation’s most intractable problems.
Today I drove from La Madera to Española and back in a new hybrid. By keeping the speed down, I got over 58 miles per gallon for a trip that ended up being more than 60 miles.
Why, when the Japanese can accomplish that today, has it taken us so many years, so many millions of dollars of arguments, so many jobs lost to Americans, to let our mpg standards languish in the low 20s to satisfy the big pickup and muscle car machismo Madison Avenue and television sold us in the first place?
What a great milestone Obama marked today. Think what we can get done in the health care morass Bush and his predecessors and the lobbyists for the insurance companies left us.
Si se puede! Andiamanos!
