Ermelinda Chavez
87, a resident of Chimayo NM passed away peacefully Saturday March 21, 2009 following an extended illness. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Nestor Chavez; parents, Ramon and Pablita Jaramillo, 3 sons, Nestor Jr., Leo and Frankie Chavez; daughter, Patsy Martinez; 6 grandchildren, Glen, Leo, Medardo Jr., Alvin and Renee Martinez, Ricky Torrez; one great-grandson, Jeremy Coriz; brothers, Floyd and Tony Jaramillo and sister, Lorenzita Baca. Ermelinda was well known for her cooking and always greeted her friends with a good meal. Ermelinda enjoyed camping, dancing, going on vacation and always looked forward to having friends and family over for Good Friday and Christmas. Ermelinda is survived by 3 daughters, Martha Aragon, Rosalie Martinez and husband Melecio, Annabelle Coriz and husband Frank; 1 son, David Chavez and wife Sally; 3 sisters, Emma Trujillo, Soraida Vigil and husband Tiny, Cleo Avila and husband Joe; 2 brothers, Samuel Jaramillo and wife Rose, Efren Jaramillo and wife Betty; 22 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-granddaughter and numerous relatives, friends and godchildren. Public visitation was Tuesday March 24, 2009 at 6:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace at DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory; a rosary followed at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on March 25, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo; burial followed at the Potrero cemetery in Chimayo. With the following serving as pallbearers; Alex Coriz, Kevin Coriz, Eric Coriz, Tony Martinez, Cindy Chavez, Leo Martinez, Adrian Chavez, and Melvin Martinez.
