Editor:
I am a resident of Lyden along the beautiful Rio Grande. According to a Sun report earlier this year, a stolen Chevy Impala was driven into the Rio Grande near the Lyden bridge. The car was engulfed by the dangerous summer rapids and authorities were unable to promptly remove the vehicle from the river.
Alas, now that the summer rapids have receded, the giant hunk of metal still sits in the middle of our precious river. I sit near the river and wonder if this car will perverse the water for generations to come.
My neighbors and friends worry about the ecological effects of this car sitting in the middle of our river. Leaching oil, gas , antifreeze and various other chemicals cannot be good for the water supply. It’s probably not a good idea to take the kids fishing anymore.
Who can help the outraged citizens of Lyden along the Rio Grande? S.O.S. Take this car out of the river.
