ABIQUIÚ LAKE: The water is green and murky. The fishing for walleye is fair with crank baits, jigs and worms. A few brown trout have been caught on spinners and night crawlers.
CHAMA RIVER: The water flows Tuesday morning below El Vado and Abiquiú Lakes were 408 cubic feet per second and 1,350 cubic feet per second, respectively. The fishing pressure has been light with a few reports of 15- to 16-inch brown trout taken on night crawlers and some rainbow trout taken on hare’s ear nymphs.
EAGLE NEST LAKE: The shoreline fishing for trout has been good most days with worms and power bait. The fishing for perch is slow.
EL VADO LAKE: The fishing from the shore has been good for 20- to 22-inch rainbow and brown trout with Rapalas, spinners and worms.
HERON LAKE: The trolling for lake trout averaging 10 to 12 pounds has been good with flat fish or Rapalas at 15 to 40 feet. Jigging with tubes or spoons in 30 to 50 feet of water is producing some nice lake trout. The fishing from the bank for small lakers and rainbow trout is good with rainbow power bait.
JEMEZ WATERS: The water flow on the Jemez River near Jemez Springs Tuesday morning was 257 cubic feet per second. The fishing has been good with bead head nymphs, San Juan worms, salmon eggs and worms. Stonefly hatches are starting and fishing should improve over the next couple of weeks.
PECOS RIVER: The water flow Tuesday morning near Pecos was 428 cubic feet per second. The water is high and murky and the fishing for trout is slow.
RIO GRANDE: The water flow Tuesday morning at Taos Junction Bridge was 1,030 cubic feet per second. The fishing for trout is fair with black wooly buggers or large bead head stonefly nymphs.
SAN JUAN RIVER: The water flow below Navajo Lake Tuesday morning was 447 cubic feet per second. The fishing in the Quality Water is good in the morning with midge larva and midge emergers. The fish are taking gray, olive and brown nymphs in the afternoons. The fishing in the bait waters is good using spinners, worms, meal worms and the same flies as for the Quality Water.
