Hey, State, Where’s the Rental Help?

I would like to address a situation that I have been dealing with for several months.

I applied for rental assistance through the state’s COVID relief program in November 2021. I have supplied the required documentation. We are at the end of March, almost four months later, and have yet to receive a response of approval or denial.

Is this a real possibility or just another scam to build the hopes of the people in New Mexico?

I have an assigned application number. How many people have made it this far?

I have reached out to the program with the telephone number provided (1-833-485-1334) and have been on hold for hours at a time trying to get through and have been disconnected multiple times. I have gone online to the recommended email address (DFARental.Programs@state.nm.us) and have inquired what the next step is. I have yet to receive any response, but the automated system explains someone will get back to me within 48 hours.

If the state of New Mexico has run out of money it should stop advertising and making promises that it won’t or can’t keep.

I am addressing this situation not only for myself but for all New Mexico residents in need of this program.
