Adult human skeletal remains were found Tuesday about 10 miles west of El Rito alongside State Road 554 near the turnoff to the landfill, according to police.
Two men found a skull and jawbone off the road Tuesday afternoon, State Police Sgt. Chris Valdez said. Officers searching the area located the rest of the remains, Valdez said. The bones have been sent for analysis, and the sex of the victim is not known yet. Foul play is suspected in the death. Agents have been questioning people in that area with regard to the Aug. 15 disappearance of Joanne Ocana, of El Rito, Valdez said, but at this time there is no conclusive evidence linking the remains to Ocana.
