JOHN A. MARTINEZ,
38, a resident of Chimayo passed away suddenly on Sunday, February 22, 2009. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Vicente and Amadita Garcia, and uncle, Salomon Garcia. John was a beloved father, brother, son, uncle, grandson and nephew. He was always willing to give of himself to everyone. His favorite saying was “be patient, God is in control.” He loved his motorcycle, and was very proud of his business “Safe-n-Sound.” John was very strong in his faith and with his relationship with God. He will be dearly missed. He is survived by his son, Nick Martinez of Chimayo; mother, Pauline Duncan and step-father, Del of Española; father, Lee R. Martinez and step-mother, Marie of Santa Fe; sisters, Jacqueline McCubbins and husband Lawrence of Chimayo, Tammy Varela and husband Pat of Santa Fe, Veronica Martinez and boyfriend Manuel Moreno of Santa Fe; brothers, Kevin Barth of New Hampshire and Lawrence Martinez of Santa Fe; paternal grandmother, Floraida and Corpentino Vigil of Chimayo; paternal grandfather, Lorenzo V. Martinez of Los Luceros; nephews and nieces, Draven Pacheco, Connor McCubbins, Lauren McCubbins, Alexis and Destiny Pacheco, Megan Barth and Yasmin Moreno; very close friends, Steve Sanchez and wife Gina of Espanola and numerous aunts, uncles and other relatives and friends. Public visitation will begin on Thursday, February 26, 2009 at 6:00 p.m., devotional service will follow at 7:00 p.m., both taking place in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home. Funeral service will take place on Friday, February 27, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at El Buen Pastor in Española, NM, burial will follow at the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers, Lawrence Martinez, Kevin Barth, Pat Varela, Manuel Moreno, Jessy Martinez, Daniel, Vincent and Charles Garcia. Honorary pallbearers are, Monick Martinez, Lawrence McCubbins and Britney Martinez. The family of John A. Martinez has placed their trust in DeVargas Funeral Home of the Española Valley.
