John Cottrell,
47, a resident of Fairview passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April 13, 2009. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Silviano and Esquipula Montoya-Romero; sister, Isabel Abeyta; step-grandfather, Margarito Romero. John was known for being a good mechanic; John also worked construction. He is survived by his parents, James and Frances Cottrell of Fairview; aunts and uncles, Juan Montoya and wife Anja of Sacramento, CA., Laura Maez of Nambe, Horacio Montoya and wife Lala, Eva Gurule and husband Levi, Adela Pippin and husband Dwight, all of Espanola, Stella Archuleta of Santa Fe, Jenny Archuleta and many other friends and relatives. Public visitation was Friday, April 17, 2009 at 5:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home, rosary followed at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday, April 18, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Santa Cruz, burial followed at the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers, Chris Martinez, Randy Gurule, Steve Medina, Frank, and Kenneth Martinez, and Carlos Valdez. Honorary pallbearers were, Tim Bustos, Gerald Olivas, Pete Olson, Ignacio Maestas, Marcos Martinez and Eddie Sanchez.
