Juan D. Archuleta, 91, Chamita, died April 17, 2009.
Mr. Archuleta was a World War II veteran of the United States Army. He was active in his community as a former member of the Jemez Mountains Electric Cooperative board of trustees, a member of the Acequia De Chamita, the Chamita Water Association, an active parishioner of St. John The Baptist Catholic Church and especially enjoyed tending to his farm.
He was preceded in death by his parents Atanacio and Emilia Archuleta, brothers Julian Archuleta and Emilio Archuleta and sister Lugarda Maestas.
Mr. Archuleta is survived by his wife of 65 years, Clora Archuleta, and children; Alma Hirkala, Las Vegas, Nev.; John Archuleta, Albuquerque; Cathy Guillen, spanola; Martha Roybal, Espanola and Jeanne Archuleta, Albuquerque, seven grandchildren; sisters Margarita Salazar, Chamita; Polly Barnhart, Anderson, Calif., Juanita Casados, El Guique and brother Tomas Archuleta, Chamita and many nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
A recitation of the rosary was held April 20 at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church at Ohkay Owingeh, with the Mass of Christian Burial being offered April 21 at the same church. Interment with military honors followed at The Santa Fe National Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Joe, Carlos and Christopher Guillen, Orlando and Marcos Roybal, and Rob Smilow.
