The McCurdy volleyball team continued its strong opening to the season, but the other local school struggled to find their footing in early play.

 

Volleyball

Aug. 30

Santa Fe Indian School 3, Española Valley 0

In their season opener, the host Lady Sundevils (0-1) struggled against the Lady Braves, dropping a 25-13, 25-15, 25-16 decision.

 

Tohatchi 3, Escalante 1

After winning the first set, the host Lady Lobos (1-5) dropped the next two, before nearly rallying to force the set into a fifth set but came up just short in a 21-25, 25-13, 25-16, 30-28 loss.

 

Sept. 2

Santa Fe Indian School 3, Escalante 0

The Lady Lobos (1-6) could not find any offense in losing 25-11, 25-10, 25-8 to the Lady Braves.

 

McCurdy 3, New Mexico School for the Deaf 0

The Lady Bobcats (2-0) beat the Lady Roadrunners for the second consecutive time, this one going 25-13, 25-16, 25-18.

 

Belen 3, Española Valley 0

After a tough opening set loss, the visiting Lady Sundevils (0-2) could not regain any momentum in losing 27-25, 25-14, 25-17 to the Lady Eagles.

St. Michael’s 3, Pojoaque Valley 0

The Elkettes (1-4) were missing at home in a 25-17, 25-8, 25-10 loss to the Horsemen.

 

Dulce 3, Tse’ Ye’ Gai 1

The visiting Lady Hawks (1-3) ended a three-game losing streak with a 25-20, 25-17, 18-25, 25-18) win over the Diné Lady Warriors.

 

Sept. 4

Questa 3, Coronado 0

In their season opener, the Lady Leopards (0-1) were unable to find any rhythm in losing 25-7, 25-15, 25-16.

 

Española Valley 3, Bernalillo 0

The host Lady Sundevils (1-1) looked strong in a sweep of the Lady Spartans.

 

Escalante 3, Monte del Sol 0

The host Lady Lobos (2-6) ended a three-game losing streak with a 25-5, 25-8, 25-11 win over the Lady Dragons.

 

Santa Fe Prep 3, Pojoaque Valley 0

The visiting Elkettes (1-4) dropped a 25-10, 25-19, 25-15 decision to the Lady Blue Griffins.

 

Dulce 3 Newcomb 2

In a rugged match, the Lady Hawks (2-3) rallied for a second consecutive win in a 25-20, 22-25, 25-17, 19-25, 17-15 over the Skyhawks in tournament play.

 

Sept. 5

Dulce 3, Mesa Vista 2

For the second consecutive match, the Lady Hawks (3-3) went the distance for the win, beating the Lady Trojans (0-1) 24-26, 25-22, 25-21, 12-25, 17-15.

 

Sept. 6

Mesa Vista 3, Peñasco 0

The Lady Trojans (1-1) found their game against the Lady Panthers to win 25-16, 25-21, 25-21 in tournament play.

 

McCurdy 3, Dulce 0

The Lady Bobcats (3-1) had handled the Lady Hawks (3-4) 25-16, 25-14, 25-16 in tournament play.

 

Dulce 3, Mesa Vista 1

The Lady Hawks (4-4) had an easier time against the Lady Trojans (1-2) in a tournament rematch by rallying to win the final three sets, 20-25, 25-9, 25-21, 25-16.

 

Boys soccer

Sept. 2

Belen 4, Pojoaque Valley 0

Raudel Rivera made 12 saves for the Elks (0-3), but the Eagles were able to sneak two goals by him in each half. Mateo Ulibarri had two shots on goal and Joshua Gomez had one for Pojoaque.

 

Sept. 3

Tierra Encantada 5, Pojoaque Valley 0

The Elks (0-4) put five shots on goal, including two by Julian Caballero, but they were unable to solve the Alacranes defense.

 

Girls soccer

Aug. 29

Belen 5, Pojoaque Valley 1

The visiting Elkettes (1-3) scored in the first half, but still lost the opener of the Belen Tournament to the host Lady Eagles.

 

Grants 5, Pojoaque Valley 3

The Elkettes (1-4) dropped the second match of the Belen tournament, despite equaling its best scoring game of the season.

 

Aug. 30

Pojoaque Valley took a forfeit win over Santa Fe Indian School.

Sept. 2

Belen 2, Pojoaque Valley 1

The Elkettes (2-5) rallied for a goal in the second half, but it was not enough to overcome the host Lady Eagles in a rematch of an earlier game.

 

Cross Country

Aug. 30

Led by Ezequiel Navarez, the Mesa Vista boys turned in a dominating performance in the season-opening meet in the Peñasco meet.

Navarez won the meet in 18-minutes, 40-seconds, while teammate Jonathan Martinez was right behind at 18:41 and Andres Valdez was fourth in 19:59 as the Trojans finished with 29 points.
