Just imagine

Imagine a workplace where you aren’t placed on leave when you’re accused of sexual harassment, where you can miss six days of work without giving any notice, where you can tell your boss that you cannot be evaluated more than annually because you say so, and the company continues to run without CEO for over a month; look no further than the City of Española.

It’s no secret, our city government is falling apart. In the wake of the mayor’s latest scandal the mayor has gone into hiding, refusing to do the basic duties of his job, we don’t have a city anager and his interim appointment was rejected by us on the council 7-1. Instead of appointing a suitable candidate the mayor continues to pretend the council didn’t reject his appointment and is having his city clerk pretend to be manager.

After this concerning behavior I asked the clerk to put an item on the agenda to do another evaluation on the city clerk, the appointed offices serve at the pleasure of the council and council can call to have them evaluated at any time. Instead of doing her job, Clerk Martinez informed me that the “Mayor has the final say over the agenda” and that my item was “rejected.” The mayor has no said authority to dictate what is and is not on the agenda, only the council does.

The Vigil administration continues to behave as if there are no checks and balances, I ask the rest of the council to not ignore these threats, this behavior is unacceptable and we must hold the mayor and his appointees accountable.

Española City Councilor for District 4
