Española needs help

I am writing in hopes you will bring attention to a dangerous problem we have developing here in Española.

There is uncontrolled store theft, drug dealing, and very aggressive dogs, mostly coming from a homeless/drug dealing camp just a few feet North of Española Walmart.

Saturday, January 20th, I started walking behind Walmart to view the wildlife in the pond there. Immediately two very aggressive dogs ran up and were trying to attack me. I swung my knife and told them “NO” loudly many times until the apparent owner emerged from a tent and called them back.

After calling 911, police arrived and informed me that it was tribal land so they can’t do anything about it, or the 15 or so people camped there … some of which are dealing drugs.

Calling the Tribal police on 1-22-24, I was informed that they are aware of the problem, but have investigated … and it is City of Española property. I also tried to speak with the manager of Walmart, who sent employees to tell me there isn’t anything they can do.

Many people I know are afraid to shop at this store now, as the problem has worsened exponentially in the past 3 months.

Please help me get the word out so someone finally takes responsibility and keeps our citizens safe. Thank you in advance.
