I just want to drop you a note and express my appreciation for the reporting I am seeing at your newspaper.
I came to the Española Valley in 2007, pursuing a work opportunity. Since then, I have been embraced and welcomed into this community in a way that I have not experienced anywhere else. Often times, it has been confusing to read in the local paper story after story painting a picture of Rio Arriba County that is scary and broken. This has been in such stark contrast to my own experience here of people helping each other, lifting each other, struggling together, and continually welcoming me into their homes and families.
But lately, I have been reading more stories of hope and healing. As well as stories holding our leadership accountable. Both of these things lift my heart and better reflect my own experiences in this community.
Reporters like Tabitha Clay and Austin Fisher are doing great, in my view, to highlight the amazing work of community members in the Valley, and to hold law enforcement and leadership to task. To me, this is what journalism is about – lifting the people’s voices and speaking truth to power.
Thank you so much. I am enjoying more and more your weekly publication and look forward to more.
