New Ideas Are Great But Measurable Outcomes Must Be Ensured

As we prepare for a new legislative session, I hope our Governor and Legislature consider what financial catastrophes have occured in other parts of the United State.

Detroit has lost their pensions. The monetary problems in California and Arizona should be a further forewarning to the results of reckless spending. One additional example could be the need of NM to prevent retiring State Employees under the age of 55 to access Retiree Healthcare as the benefit is in trouble.

I worked for the New Mexico State Government for 27 years in eleven different positions. The only way to get a raise was to take on additional duties or move to a higher position.

I am happy the state employees have been given substantial raises in the most recent years which we would have loved to have received. I caution our leaders to ensure they are able to keep up with the additional monies you have added to the budget and make certain the state is able to make the bills going forward in leaner years.

Employees have had to take furloughs when the state overspends or can’t meet the obligations. Let’s learn from the past and prevent future issues.

As a former government manager, an additional issue must be raised. What measurable goals are being set and ensured as you make changes? It is great to be innovative and come up with new ideas but you must ensure there are measurable outcomes, not just “look at me” ideas.

Support For LeDoux

There are many reasons to be jealous of New Mexico, but the most personal one is the states recent acquisition of Samuel LeDoux as a candidate for city council in Espanola.

I know Sam from his work in Arizona as a dedicated public servent and highly effective champion of diversity and equity while serving on the Cosmetology and Barbering Commission.

Sam LeDoux is the type of person we need more of in politics. His integrity and his character are refreshing when compared to the corruption and general low quality of many political leaders today.

In addition to his public service Sam has also spent time as an educator and worked with many state and federal programs. Over the years I have known Sam, Española and it’s well being was always his first love.

I know if he is elected he will raise the bar for servent leadership not just in Española but in New Mexico as a whole. I urge you to vote for and support Samuel LeDoux if you are able. Candidates like him are the future. A better place to be looking right now then at politicos past.
