Letters to the Editor 5/8/25

Published:

I wanted to write a letter so the fine people of Española could read.

My wife was at the Santuario of Chimayó on Holy Thursday with her sister and our Grandson who has ALD. He very hyper and needs hands on attention. She stopped at Parasol restaurant in on the way home for lunch.

A gentleman noticed our grandson’s behavior and after a while, my wife related that he walked up and introduced himself and handed her a very special medallion-looking coin. He said he has dealt with young teens with this behavior problem before and he wanted to give our grandson, Vicente the coin who he says is not given out very often and only for special circumstances.

My wife came home and told me the story. This person turned out to be Enrico Trujillo, fire chief for Rio Arriba county and the city of Española, N.M. The medallion has the fire dept seal and crossed axes with the chief’s name on it. He told her these are given to very few people, and are very special.

We would like to graciously thank the chief and let the people of Española know what a fine person they have in that position. When you have a person of that caliber you can’t ask for anyone better to represent your county and city. Our family has a retired paramedic and firefighter currently working for AFR. We know the sacrifices they make to serve their community. God bless you Chief.
