DeVargas spent most of the ’90s working to create economic opportunities for the residents of the La Madera, El Rito, Vallecitos and Ojo Caliente area by creating a local logging company, La Compania Ocho. The idea was to get contracts from the Forest Service to allow local residents of the Vallecitos Sustained Yield Unit.
