(SUNfoto by Andrew Kasper) Harry Cordova (center), of Truchas, shows off a loom to visitors in his crowded weaving shop on a walking tour of the town May 6. The tour marked the beginning of three new cooperatives in Truchas with the goal of developing the local economy by enticing more tourists and by farming organic vegetables to sell in regional markets. The co-ops were formed with grant money from the federal Agriculture Department through a program to develop rural communities. Truchas is being used as a model for the rest of Northern New Mexico, organizers say.
