MANUEL REYES CATA, 85, a resident of Ohkay Owingeh, passed away on Thursday, January 1, 2009. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernie Cata; son, Edgar Cata; parents, Adolfo and Isabel Cata; sisters, Veronica Cruz, Gertrude Trujillo, Emily Povijua and Mary Peña and brothers, Johnny and Nicholas Cata. Mr. Cata is survived by his children, Johnny J. Cata and wife Mary “Pancha” Cata, Florence Maestas and Barbara Hutchinson and husband Douglas; sisters, Marie Toni Sandoval and husband Miguel, Mary E. Bridges and Norma Garcia and husband Richard all of Ohkay Owingeh; grandchildren, Damian J. Cata of Marietta, GA, Nathaniel J. Cata of Albuquerque, Marlena Leach of Arlington, VA, Naomi J. Cata, Jonathan J. Cata, Melinda Maestas, Brenda Maestas, Joseonesimo Maestas all of Ohkay Owingeh, Camille Dobberowsky of Albuquerque, Amanda Dobberowsky of Truchas and numerous other relatives and friends. Public visitation was Saturday, January 3, 2009 at 6:30 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home with a rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. A rosary was recited on Sunday, January 4, 2009 at 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at the family residence in Ohkay Owingeh. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday, January 5, 2009 at 8:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh. Burial followed at 10:30 a.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers, Joseonesimo Maestas, Jonathan, Nathaniel and Gerald Cata, Jody Sandoval and Douglas Hutchinson.
