On Thursday, November 16, 2023, Mary Geraldine Mascareñas, a resident of Estaca, NM., passed away at the age of 57 with her loving family at her side.
Mary Geraldine graduated from Española Valley High School in 1984, she went on to attend Northern New Mexico Community College, where she completed her college career.
Mary Geraldine was a life-long member of San Juan Bautista Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo and La Capilla de San Francisco de Asis in Estaca, NM, where she served as Mayordoma for several years throughout her life. Mary Geraldine devoted her life to the ministry of music. It was in her ministry and giving that she was able to provide beautiful music in community churches, the local Senior Centers and nursing homes.
Mary Geraldine was preceded in death by her late husband, Alan D. Cain; grandmothers, whom she loved and cherished dearly Donelia Mascareñas and Santana Cruz; grandfather Sostenes J. Mascareñas; grandfather, Daniel Archuleta; great-grandparents Juan and Rosaura Martinez, Meliton and Antonia Mascareñas and Emiliano and Geronima Archuleta; son-in-law Albert M. Martinez; parents-in-law, Donald and Gloria Cain; brother-in-law, Russell Cain; grandparents-in-law, Juan and Efrin Silvia.
Mary Geraldine is survived by her parents Harold and Maria Mascareñas; daughters Jasmine Rae Cain and companion Jordan Sanchez and Germel D. Martinez; grandchildren Alanaya Serrano, Nissi, Zerahiah and Zilthai ‘Zee’ Segovia; sisters Karrie Renee Mascareñas and Jolynn Alvarez (Arturo) and numerous other relatives and friends.
A Rosary will be recited on Friday, November 24th at 10:30am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 am. Interment to follow at San Rafael Cemetery in El Guique, NM.
