Maryland Marty is Wrong for NM

Published:

Much like real estate, in the world of politics, location is everything. Martin Heinrich’s location, as well as his priorities, are not in New Mexico.

Not long after winning a seat in Washington, D.C., Heinrich packed up the family and moved away from New Mexico to Maryland. After all, if he was going to pursue a ruinous set of policies, he couldn’t have his family there facing the consequences.

To this day Heinrich still promotes this story from 2016 where he cheers improvements to the D.C. metro train system. If you ask Heinrich, he will likely tell you that someone taking the train or the bus to work proves he is just as normal as the rest of us. However, a closer look reveals the truth. From the article: “For Heinrich, the New Mexico Democrat takes full advantage of transit from his home in suburban Silver Spring, Maryland.”

Undoubtedly, Heinrich will continue to brush aside the legitimate criticism of his controversial choice of residence. He might even say that many members of Congress of both parties live in the Beltway in order to maintain a semblance of family normalcy. Even if that is true, what he can’t brush aside is the fact that his record in the Senate reflects East Coast values and not New Mexico.

“From my first race to this one, I’m fighting for a safer and more prosperous New Mexico and I won’t stop until every New Mexican is thriving,” Heinrich recently said. The fact is that by many objective measures, New Mexico is a more dangerous and less prosperous state than when Heinrich took office in 2009.

Crime is so rampant in New Mexico that even Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham had to call a special session to try and tamp it down. And when it comes to “prosperity,” New Mexico has the highest level of poverty in the nation.

By his own standards, Martin Heinrich is a failure. There is a clear reason why.

Since Joe Biden took office, he has enjoyed the most loyal rubber stamp in the Senate in Martin Heinrich. Every Biden move is greeted with lofty praise from New Mexico’s senior senator. Nowhere is that more accurate than when it comes to energy. Despite representing the second largest oil-producing state in the country, Heinrich continues to celebrate Biden’s agenda to destroy the oil and natural gas industry.

When Biden ordered a freeze on drilling on federal land, Martin Heinrich did nothing.

When Biden drained the Strategic Petroleum Reserve more than any other President, Martin Heinrich did nothing.

When Joe Biden begged Saudi Arabia to produce more oil instead of American energy workers, Martin Heinrich did nothing.

In fact, if you were to boil down Martin Heinrich’s time in Congress to two words, they could very well be “doing” and “nothing.” That’s because Martin Heinrich has the luxury of living on the East Coast where he is immune from the catastrophic consequences being faced by families in New Mexico.

And while the political whisper machine says Heinrich wants to run for Governor soon, I have my doubts. I’m not sure he would like the job – after all Santa Fe is a long way from Maryland.
