I was so surprised to read in your paper about the city of Española, as well as the County of Rio Arriba not receiving any money from the United States government to combat drug and alcohol addictions. This used to be the greatest little town to grow up in. Now, since the drug trafficking has moved into the Española Valley, our youngsters are dying like flies from black tar heroin.
It seems to me that there is no compassion for the addicts. It is a horrible thing to know what the people in charge, Rio Arriba County commissioners, the Rio Arriba County sheriff’s department, the Española police department and the Española city council are not willing to face the fact there is an epidemic of overdoses from various drugs an alcohol.
It is a shame our children have to deal with this problem all by themselves. Parents are not educated to the problem, so they are in the state of denial. People are not wiling to admit their child is doing these drugs.
Wake up, people. The drugs brought here by the Mexican drug cartel are killing our children
