Monday Morning Surprise

Published:

Commuters and other drivers found the lanes of the Stanley Griego Bridge backed up as they tried to make the right turn onto Los Alamos Highway, from the bridge, Monday morning due to paving work. The left lane at the intersection was closed, forcing traffic to merge into the right lane. Meanwhile, traffic was bumper-to-bumper on Los Alamos Highway, going toward Paseo de Oñate, which was then diverted onto Paseo de Oñate. Paving work continued on Tuesday morning. The project will take 10 working days and work will be done from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, James Murray, the NMDOT District 5 public information officer said via email. He said the project went ahead as planned despite the Oñate Bridge being closed because “the roadway was still in need of rehabilitation, whether the bridge was open or closed. The section between the Oñate Bridge and the Stanley Griego Bridge is the first section to be worked on so as to minimize any disruption to current traffic patterns.”
